Description: There can be many reasons for a cognitive decline in typical adults, as well as those with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). However, for adults with IDD, it is not uncommon for healthcare professionals to quickly identify these behaviors as a result of dementia, failing to investigate underlying health issues resulting in misdiagnosed or undiagnosed conditions. This webinar will allow you to:

  • Be able to explain how the individual’s intrinsic personality could impact age-related changes.
  • Learn and explain “Diagnostic Overshadowing” and how it can impact the ability to provide an accurate assessment.
  • Gain aptitude to describe how personal and social issues could lead to a change in functional status.
  • Leverage the skills to describe several health consequences that may lead to functional decline and masquerade as being dementia.

Duration: 1 ½ hours.
