Description: Uncovering myths of aging and discovering health care disparities in older adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Aging determined by age-related changes is experienced by everyone, while usual aging determined by age-associated changes are not experienced by everyone. Understanding descriptors of aging based on adults with IDD is a vital tool in a caregiver’s role. Many adults with IDD also face barriers resulting in disparities limiting access to health care. This webinar will:

  • Focus on the three determinants of aging: genetics, lifestyle, and environment.
  • Identify effects of disparities within the IDD population.
  • Understanding those effects to advocate for each individual with IDD.
